Oscar & Co

The initial brief for this job was to tidy up and modernise an existing salon on the beach side of a building in central Takapuna.  We were aiming for a beachy, relaxed and elegant vibe.  This first transformation was met with such a positive response from clients that the owners decided to take over the entire floor.

After gutting the offices that were on the street side we ended up with one large open space.  The Rimu floor boards were sanded back to take the dated glossy orange hue away and tone them down for a more modern look.  We painted throughout and changed all the lighting to blend in with the new layout.

To give a fresh new approach to the salon we designed a white bespoke island with drawers the perfect depth to accommodate the multitude of colour bottles.  This provides a central working hub and also a feature of the salon.  Behind this at a lower level and not visible to clients, is the ‘messy’ area with sinks, bins and tea making facilities.

The ceiling beams have become a feature and we chose gorgeous soft peachy pink chairs and cute oval mirrors – both pretty and in keeping with the beachy feel.  For our bespoke ‘colour table’ we kept the existing black chairs to avoid stains showing.  The table seats six and provides a large working area for those clients having longer appointments.

We also created a new staff room so staff had a nice area to sit in to take a break.

Plants are dotted throughout and all the colours and materials are tonal, light and bright.  The vibe is relaxed and incredibly efficient.

I am thrilled with the way the salon has turned out and clients and staff alike love the changes too.
